Accept USDS payments
Somewhere in a crypto-native customer base there are wallets holding the Sky ecosystem's dollar. USDS grew out of MakerDAO's DAI and lives where DeFi treasuries live, which makes it the natural payment coin for DAOs, on-chain freelancers, and trading desks. Those buyers can pay straight from working capital, with no swap standing in front of the purchase.
How USDS settles here
Each payment gets its own forwarding address whose destination is fixed to your treasury when the address is created, and where the setup allows it the payment settles into your treasury directly. NoHoldPay's job is narrow: watch the chain, match the transfer to your invoice, and sign the webhook that tells your store it confirmed. Custody never enters the picture.
| Network | Confirmation rule (live) | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | Payments confirm when the network finalizes the block that contains them. | varies |
| Solana | Payments are final as soon as the network validates the transaction. There is no reorg window. | a few seconds |
| Base | Payments confirm when the network finalizes the block that contains them. | varies |
On Solana, customers can pay USDS without holding the network's gas token through gasless checkout.
Why merchants take USDS
If your customers are DeFi teams, DAOs, or traders, part of their treasury is already sitting in USDS or its savings wrapper. Accepting it removes the small ceremony of swapping into a payment coin, and small ceremonies are where checkouts die. A USDS payment is a standard token transfer: the buyer's wallet pays network gas, which this audience never notices, and the funds settle through an address derived for that payment into a wallet under your keys. There is no household brand to introduce. Crypto-native buyers already treat this protocol-issued dollar as cash, and a merchant who lists it reads as fluent to exactly the customers who check.
Worth knowing
USDS is the continuation of the MakerDAO dollar. The ecosystem rebranded to Sky, DAI holders were given an upgrade path, and customers may use the old and new names interchangeably. Yield in the Sky system accrues through a separate savings token that holders opt into, so the USDS that reaches you is a plain, non-rebasing balance. Payments are ordinary token transfers with buyer-paid gas. Sky governance can adjust the token's parameters over time, which is normal for protocol-issued assets and worth knowing if you intend to hold what you receive.
The platform fee is 0.5% per confirmed payment, prepaid. New accounts start with $50 of live credit, covering roughly the first $10,000 processed. Checkout ships hosted, or through the WooCommerce and OpenCart plugins.
Common questions
- Is USDS the same thing as DAI?
- It is the successor. The MakerDAO ecosystem rebranded to Sky and introduced USDS as its current dollar, with an upgrade path from DAI, and some customers still say DAI out of habit. If your audience holds either, listing USDS covers the direction the ecosystem has been moving.
- Does yield-bearing USDS complicate accepting payments?
- No, because the yield lives in a separate savings token that holders convert into and out of. What a buyer spends at checkout is plain USDS, and what settles to your wallet is the same plain balance. Moving received funds into the savings layer afterward is a choice only you can make.
- Why list USDS when bigger-name dollar stablecoins exist?
- Because of who holds it. USDS sits in DeFi-native treasuries and trader wallets, and those customers notice which merchants speak their language. It appears beside the household-name dollars at the same checkout, and for a crypto-native buyer it can mean paying immediately instead of swapping first.
