CoinGate vs NoHoldPay
CoinGate does regulated custody about as well as it can be done: a MiCA licence from the Bank of Lithuania, complete public pricing, Lightning, and euros settling to your bank account weekly. If a supervised counterparty converting crypto to fiat is what your business needs, you can stop reading and go there. This page is for the other merchant, the one who wants to keep crypto, skip the onboarding file, and take payment in coins CoinGate cannot carry anymore, starting with USDT.

What the direct-settlement month looks like
Take a store doing 10,000 euros across 40 crypto payments, keeping crypto. At CoinGate's published Standard rate the month costs 100 euros in processing, funds arrive on the weekly settlement cycle, and the withdrawal itself is free above the 50 euro minimum. Their pricing adds no monthly or setup fees, and that is a fair total. The same month here costs 0.5% of the volume, about 50 euros, and there is no cycle: each of the 40 payments landed in your wallet the moment it confirmed. The rate difference is real but modest. What the arithmetic cannot price is the rest of the row set above: the onboarding file CoinGate must collect before your first payment, the weekly rhythm of reaching your own revenue, and the one-time wallet-ownership proof before a self-hosted withdrawal.
On coverage, the decisive row is USDT. A store whose customers pay mostly in it cannot run on CoinGate at any price today, while it is live here across its major networks, with gasless checkout covering customers who hold the stablecoin but no gas token. Monero, Stellar, and TON follow the same pattern: absent there, live here. And the $50 signup credit covers roughly your first $10,000 of volume, against no published free tier on their side.
March 2025, and what a balance makes possible
When MiCA's stablecoin rules took effect, CoinGate discontinued USDT and DAI, announced the dates in advance, and on 24 March 2025 converted all remaining USDT balances to USDC at one to one. Everything about it was proper: a regulated processor complying with the law, transparently. It is still the cleanest real-world demonstration of what a custodial balance is. Funds on a platform ledger can be converted by the platform when its obligations require it. Funds that had settled to merchants' own wallets on payment day would have sat outside the event entirely, which is where every payment through a non-custodial gateway sits by default. Whether that reach reads as protection or exposure is exactly the choice between these two products.
Switching from CoinGate
Let your last settlement clear, then: email signup, add wallets, swap the plugin. CoinGate and NoHoldPay both ship WooCommerce and OpenCart integrations, so for most stores this is uninstall-install-repoint, with our install guides covering the webhook step. There is no verification queue on this side, so the switch is bounded by your own testing, not our review. Stores that want fiat some months and crypto others sometimes keep both gateways mounted and toggle per season, which works because we never hold the same funds.
Where CoinGate is the better fit
Any business that wants euros in the bank without ever touching a wallet: their instant conversion, three fiat currencies, refund tooling, and a supervised Lithuanian counterparty are the product for that, and we do not compete with it. The same goes for Bitcoin Lightning, which they support and we have not shipped. A finance team that wants a licensed institution on the other side of the contract is describing CoinGate, and should use it.
Common questions
- What does CoinGate offer that NoHoldPay does not?
- Fiat settlement in euros, dollars, and pounds, instant conversion as volatility protection, Bitcoin Lightning, built-in refund tooling, and a MiCA-licensed, Bank-of-Lithuania-supervised counterparty. Merchants who want crypto turned into bank money by a regulated institution should choose CoinGate without hesitation.
- Why does CoinGate not support USDT?
- MiCA compliance. As an EU-licensed processor they discontinued USDT and DAI in early 2025, with advance notice, and converted remaining USDT balances to USDC at one to one that March. Merchants whose customers pay in USDT need a gateway outside that constraint, which direct wallet settlement provides.
- Is CoinGate expensive compared to NoHoldPay?
- Not dramatically. Their published 1 percent Standard rate sits above our flat rate, their crypto and SEPA withdrawals above 50 euros are free, and they charge no monthly fees, so the gap on a typical month is roughly the rate difference. The larger differences are custody, onboarding before the first payment, and coin coverage.
- Can I accept payments on CoinGate without business verification?
- No. Their published onboarding requires completed business verification before receiving payments, including registration documents, identification, and a tax document, plus wallet-ownership proof before self-hosted withdrawals. NoHoldPay's signup is an email and a receiving wallet, with no identity step at any volume.
