Best CoinPayments alternatives in 2026

CoinPayments has processed crypto since 2013 and remains a workable balance-model processor for merchants outside Europe. The reason this page exists is dated 1 July 2026: their own support pages say they are unable to continue serving EU and EEA clients after that date, with paused accounts and balances released through identity-verified support requests. Thousands of merchants need a new gateway, and the five below are the serious candidates, compared on the axes that actually differ: who holds your money, what onboarding demands, and what each rail costs.

How this list was ranked, stated plainly: we publish NoHoldPay, we rank it first, and every claim about the other four comes from their own published documents, checked 5 August 2026, with each given the niche where it beats us. Discount our first place by whatever you think that bias is worth, and the rest of the research still stands on its sources.

Why merchants are leaving, in CoinPayments' own words

Three sourced reasons, no adjectives needed. The EU pause is total for affected merchants, with balance release running through support and identity verification. The current User Agreement, re-papered September 2025, describes received assets pooled in a multi-client omnibus wallet with pro-rata shortfall risk, and provides for a 5.5 percent dormant-account fee per twelve months of inactivity. And the 2025 platform migration required every legacy merchant to re-register and re-verify. None of this is scandal. All of it is what a balance-first model can do, and merchants who dislike the list are really disliking the model.

1. NoHoldPay: keep crypto, skip the balance entirely

The structural opposite of what EU merchants just experienced. Payments settle to addresses derived from wallet material you supply, so there is no platform balance to pause, pool, or charge dormancy on, and no onboarding file: signup is an email and a wallet. Pricing is 0.5% per confirmed payment from prepaid credit, the same for coins and stablecoins alike, where CoinPayments doubled its rate on tokens. New accounts start with $50 of credit, roughly the first $10,000 processed free. Coverage runs 14 chains including Monero, XRP, Stellar, and TON, with gasless stablecoin checkout on eligible routes and a downloadable Recovery Kit that re-derives every forwarder address without our servers. The honest limits: no fiat settlement, no Lightning, and plugins for WooCommerce and OpenCart only. The migration guide walks the switch step by step, and the head-to-head comparison prices it against CoinPayments line by line.

2. CoinGate: the regulated custodial pick

If what you actually want is euros in a bank account, CoinGate is the strongest custodial answer in Europe: a MiCA licence from the Bank of Lithuania, a Payment Institution licence beside it, complete public pricing at 1 percent, free SEPA and crypto withdrawals above 50 euros, and Lightning support. The trade is the model: full business verification before your first payment, funds held and settled weekly, and no USDT, which they discontinued under MiCA in 2025. A merchant leaving CoinPayments for CoinGate is choosing better-run custody rather than leaving custody, and for fiat-first businesses that is the right choice. Our CoinGate comparison runs the arithmetic.

3. BTCPay Server: zero fees, your server

Free, open source, genuinely non-custodial, with mature Lightning and native subscription billing. The cost is operational: their own deployment docs price hosting at 10 to 70 dollars a month, and the merchant owns Docker upgrades, node maintenance, and Lightning liquidity. Bitcoin is first-class and everything else is community-maintained plugins. For a technical Bitcoin-first merchant, nothing on this list beats it. For a store that wants fourteen chains watched by somebody else, it is a second job. The managed-versus-self-hosted comparison is written for exactly that decision.

4. Paymento: the non-custodial peer with subscriptions

A genuinely non-custodial gateway at the same 0.5 percent headline as ours, with recurring billing, Telegram group access, and Discord role automation we do not offer, plus a WHMCS plugin. Differences worth knowing: on account chains every customer pays one static merchant address, which exposes revenue history on-chain and limits concurrent invoices, their free tier is now the first 3,000 dollars plus a 15 dollar credit, and there is no Monero, XRP, Stellar, TON, or gasless. For creator-economy merchants who need subscriptions on a non-custodial rail, it is the pick. The Paymento comparison treats it as the peer it is.

5. NOWPayments: coin breadth, with a caveat EU merchants must read

Hundreds of coins, auto-conversion, mass payouts, volume discounts to 0.4 percent, and the widest plugin catalog on this list. Two dated facts temper it for this page's audience. Their terms as updated April 2026 state services are not rendered to residents or citizens of the EU, the UK, or the US, which excludes exactly the merchants CoinPayments stranded. And their own documents describe custody three different ways, which our NOWPayments comparison quotes side by side. For non-EU merchants who want maximum coin coverage, it stays a serious option.

How to choose in one paragraph

Want euros in the bank from a licensed EU institution: CoinGate. Want zero fees and full sovereignty, and have the ops capacity: BTCPay Server. Need subscriptions on a non-custodial rail: Paymento. Outside the EU and chasing maximum coin count: NOWPayments, custody caveats read. Want your revenue in your own wallets from the moment it confirms, with no balance for the next platform event to touch: NoHoldPay, and after July 2026 that last property is presumably why you are here.

Common questions

Which CoinPayments alternative works for EU merchants right now?
Four of the five: NoHoldPay, CoinGate, BTCPay Server, and Paymento all serve EU merchants as of August 2026. NOWPayments does not, by its own April 2026 terms excluding EU, UK, and US residents. CoinGate is the EU-licensed custodial route, and the other three are non-custodial in different flavors.
Can I get my balance out of CoinPayments before switching?
Their pages describe balance release for paused EU accounts through support requests with identity verification, and normal withdrawals elsewhere, subject to per-coin network fees. Do that first whatever you choose next, since no alternative gateway can reach funds held on their platform.
Do any of these alternatives match CoinPayments' coin list?
NOWPayments comes closest with hundreds of currencies, then NoHoldPay's 14 chains and 33 routes, then CoinGate's roughly 11 assets, with BTCPay Bitcoin-first and Paymento at seventeen or so. Most stores discover their customers actually pay in a handful of majors and stablecoins, so audit your real payment mix before weighting this row heavily.
Is a non-custodial gateway harder to operate than CoinPayments was?
The daily experience is simpler, not harder: no balance to sweep, no withdrawals to schedule, funds just arrive in your wallet. What you take on is wallet responsibility, keys, backups, and refunds sent by hand. Merchants comfortable holding any crypto at all already carry that responsibility.

Sourcing: CoinPayments' EU pause, User Agreement mechanics, and fees, and every claim about CoinGate, BTCPay Server, Paymento, and NOWPayments, come from each provider's published documents, read 5 August 2026, collected in our dated fact sheets and re-verified quarterly. Their live pages win over this one if they have changed.
